Our Vision
People visit Te Whakatūrākau (Atiwhakatu) valley to enjoy a flourishing community of native birds, including the friendly toutouwai/North Island Robin.

Our work
Our team of volunteers, supported by community funding organisations, do predator control on 400ha of forest near the popular Donnelly Flat in the Holdsworth area of the Tararua Forest Park. Our work supports threatened and vulnerable bird species in the area like Koekoeā/long-tailed cuckoo, Kārearea/New Zealand Falcon, and Kākāriki/red and yellow-crowned parakeet, as well as more common favourites Tūī, Kererū/New Zealand pigeon, Korimako/bellbird and Miromiro/tomtit. Things are going so well we hope to be part of a move to reintroduce birds that used to be found here, but are now locally extinct, like the friendly and gorgeous wee Toutouwai/North Island Robin.

Want to support us?
We mostly operate on volunteer power, but we do need the hardware to do the catching. Head over to giveatrap.org and they’ll send us a sparkly new rat trap to do the hard work.
Make a cash donation
Sometimes we need some dollars for baits, signage and experts to do some experting for us (like setting up our monitoring and giving us training). You can make a one off or regular donation using our Give a Little page or send it straight to our bank account (details here).
